동물은 한대성, 열대성 동물이 함께 서식하고 있는데, 77종의 포유류, 조류 198종 등을 비롯하여 파충류, 양서류가 각각 8종, 곤충류와 거미류가 873종과 74종 등이다.
　식물은 한라산을 중심으로 하여 아열대, 온대, 한대식물 등이 수직으로 분포하고 있는떼, 그 종유는 2,001종에(백두산 : 500여 종, 지리산 : 1,000여 종)달해 가히 식물의 보고라 할 만하다. 이 중에는 8종의 천연기념물이 포함되어 있으며 한라산 일대는 국립공원으로 지정되어 있다.

Flora and Fauna : The fauna of the island is extensive and ranges from alpin to propical including 77 kinds of mammals, 198 kinds of birdg, 8 kinds of reptiles and amphibians each, and 873 kinds of insects.
　The flora is vertically distributed along the slopes of Mt. Halla in subtropical, temperate and alpine climates and has about 2,001 kinds of species including 8 Natural Monuments.
