Marado Island, Korea's southernmost tip, is about a 50 minute ride by boat from Moseulpo Harbor and is situated at the latitude of 33' .07 north and longitude of 126'.16 east. This island has a lighthouse indicated even in the marine map of the world. Marado shares identical lineage of volcinic geology with Mt. Halla, but it was formed at a different volcanic period and remains as a parasite volcano.

Historical records indicate that three families began to reside there in 1873, and the virgin forest of the island was burnt down in order to expand the land for farming. Therefore, only a few pine trees remain, and no frogs or snakes can be found on this island. currently, 107 residents in 26 families live mainly on fishing in this island.
